Get Me To The Church On Time - By Driving A Submersible
Friday, September 5, 2008 at 10:17AM Dreamed this last night.
I was leading the worship band for some church, and along with me were a bunch of guys I used to play with. I was in charge, but things kept coming up that I couldn't control - song changes, sound problems, you name it. We were outside, on the bank of a big river. Then everybody was getting into the water and swimming. The service location had been changed, and we needed to hustle to get there on time. This did not seem right to me AT ALL, but everyone was going, and I was in charge (right...nobody's following, but I'm in charge) so I waded out into the water.
One of the guys took my misgivings for fear of the water, and suggested I take one of the submersibles. All around me were these little propellor-driven things that scuba divers use, only they had little seats. He showed me how to use it, but it was complicated - you had to push and hold certain combinations of buttons, and he was explaining it all really fast. I looked to see how far we had to go, and it was only about fifty yards. Why couldn't we just walk? I would have swam (swum?) the fifty yards (I'm a good swimmer), but I didn't want to get my hair wet.
So I wedged myself into the tiny seat, shifted into gear and pushed the throttle. It was kinda fun, but I was wet from the waist down and we had to be onstage in, like, five minutes or so. In fact I wanted to go underwater, but...my hair. At the landing everyone was climbing out onto a platform covered with roof shingles, and I was pretty sure my dress shoes would provide me no hold.
I woke up from this dream, I think, because of Booey the Cat. When Booey walks on the bed, there's no ignoring it.
