This'll Make You Want To Quit

You absolutely MUST check out this short clip of Scotty Anderson playing the guitar.  I'm not a fan of country music, but this is just unbelievable.

Although I comforted myself initially by saying, "Yeah, but he's a savant--he can't possibly be good at other styles.  He's like a crab with one big arm," or some other puff-headed statement, I was proved wrong by a quick youtube search on the guy - he's a good jazz player too.  That does it.  Today's the day I start practicing scales and arpeggios.  Again.

Ugh. I'm not even a guitar player and it makes me want to quit.

Stunning. This was a cool find. Thanks.

See how much time, effort and money I saved you? You might have bought a guitar, took lessons, then run across this video and quit. Here at The Sunday Musician, we take care of you.

You know what I'm thinking. "My Pete is better". But it might not be true.

Tell me that this was filmed 15 years ago, when all you silly men wore too tight jeans and permed your hair. (OK, and all us silly women wore shoulder pads in every shirt, sweater, and jacket and had rolled under bangs.)

I'd be willing to bet there's nothing Pete can play that Scotty can't, but my guess is that Pete has lots of good ideas that Scotty doesn't. And in the end, I don't buy recordings because someone's fast--I buy them because they move me. So faster is fine for a few songs, but it doesn't sell too awful many CD's. Proof? Scotty Anderson is known as 'The Best Guitarist Nobody's Ever Heard Of'. Or something close. Another great guitarist, Danny Gatton, was unbelievable, and ended up killing himself because he was playing dives.
