Sunday, And Another Couple of Nice Moments
Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 08:05AM I've been hanging out a little over at Fred McKinnon's blog, and he's doing a 'what's-everybody-else-singing-on-Sunday' blog carnival. Sort of a snapshot of what's going on all over. So, my two cents:
The Other Ed, who hangs out here at The Sunday Musician, is worship leader for our small church, and for the past several years his only goal has been to 'make it real'. Ed makes it look easy, and that's in part because he wants it that way - as does everyone else. When a church is young like we are, there's always a period where you can just sort of let things flow, don't over-rehearse, let things go the way they go. That'll change as God grows us bigger, but for now, after the riot of spread-sheet-schedules and in-ear monitors at the Big Church, I'm totally diggin' the laid-back-ness of it all.
Pass Me Not (Oh Gentle Savior)
All Who Are Thirsty
Center (oh Christ, be the center of our lives...)
Enough
I brought a slide along, re-tuned my acoustic, and we found several 'moments' along the way. I don't know if anyone else ever feels this; the worship time was just so...sweet, I guess, that I'm still sort of there, you know? Several times he just looked over at me and said, "Take one, Eddie," and I love the immediacy of that approach.
This led to a discussion a few days later over Mexican food, of how musicians get frustrated when they're not allowed any input, which is a common problem, if the discussions I get into with fellow Sunday Musicians is any indication.

Hey,
Totally enjoyed reading your setlist just now ... "Center" is one of my very favorites - what a message, and true - you can find lots of "moments" in the flow of that stuff.
I've been in the small church, where it was almost 100% sponteaneous, it sure was nice. Now, I'm head-deep in that "spreadsheet schedule/IEM" stuff! :-)
That's the beauty of what's happening at "Sunday Setlists" - seeing the Body of Christ all across the spectrum of different sizes, styles, nations, etc.
While I'm filling comment space ... have you checked out TheWorshipCommunity.Com yet? I'd be honored if you'd consider putting that on your links of interest.

There's definitely a beauty in simplicity. We did "All Who are Thirsty" this last Sunday as well. Great cry of worship.
Love hearing that someone else was doing the same song. Reminds me that we're all one church.
Fred - The Worship Community looks like a fantastic site, and I'll put a link up right away.
this makes me long for the simple days...
Beth, I checked out your site - very nice! Really well done.
And I understand about wanting the good old says. Still...under the right circumstances I'd dive in again. Maybe not as a staff member, but as a volunteer. Actually, things are already starting to progress beyond that stage at our little church. As you may have seen in The Other Ed's post, the building was packed last Sunday. We're adding a Saturday night service this coming weekend, we've acquired use of the building next door for children's ministry (which, when it gets going, will surely keep some people around that might not have otherwise stayed), and...I suspect that at the end of school year, the joint will be jumpin'. Because we're literally across the street from Hope College, our attendance is somewhat tied to the school year. We seem to be popular with the college crowd.
All that to say: I guess we gotta take things as they come.
