Dungeon Shook and the Chains Fell Off
Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 11:26AM This post is part of Fred McKinnon's 'Sunday Set Lists' blog carnival.
Before I launch into the post: If you've ever felt called to work in ministry, you'll be relieved to know that someone else was as insane as you--several thousand years ago. Read MOSES AT THE COUNSELOR'S OFFICE.
Last night's service was, after all my years of hectic church weekends, exactly what I love. There were only maybe 30 people there last night, and the intimacy was wonderful. The other Ed led us through three songs, and for the life of me, I can't remember the third. We did Fanny Crosby's 'Pass Me Not Oh Gentle Saviour', the one I can't remember, then an old folk song: 'Keep Your Eyes On The Prize':
Paul and Silas bound in jail
Had no money to go their bail
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Paul and Silas thought they were lost
Dungens shook and the chains came off
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Here's Springsteen doing the song:
I found it very moving.
We all prayed together, broke for coffee refills, then Greg taught from the book of Mark. The Other Ed sang 'Beautiful, Scandalous Night' while we took communion, and then Molly and I went home. It was everything I want out of a meeting with my church family.
Don't miss MOSES AT THE COUNSELOR'S OFFICE. It will keep you sane, maybe. A little.

Loved Moses at the Counselors Office.
I've always identified with Mo.
Simply cool. I must do more music that Springstein has done.
Sounds like ya'll have a very laid back back vibe.
Dig it.

Way cool atmosphere you've got going. Do also lounge chairs or something different?
The building is an old restaurant, kinda funky. Depending on the size of the crowd, we set up high-top tables and chairs. Several different kinds of chairs, some cushy, some not. I'm lobbying for Barcaloungers, but I suppose my snoring during the sermon would be frowned upon...
Sunday setllist:
Not To Us (Tomlin) This is the one you forgot
Pass Me Not (Crosby)
Eyes On The Prize (traditional)
Mighty To Save (Fielding/ Morgan)
Beautiful Scandalous Night(Daugherty/Hindalong)
I shoulda took a song sheet home, but it seemed wrong...
